Discover the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at Unpacked has made us think that this is a great time for foldable phone fans. This new phone doesn’t bring anything revolutionary, but it seems to be much more refined. It offers some improvements where it’s needed, while increasing durability, one of Samsung’s priorities.

So here are the features and improvements of the Galaxy Z Fold 6starting with increased durability, then moving on to performance and software. Here’s everything you need to know about the mobile.

Reinforced hinge protection and marginal fold improvement

Samsung continues to make its foldable flagship more robust every year, even though no other phone in this category comes close to the durability level of the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold range.

THE Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a stronger Armor Aluminum frame, offering 10% better scratch resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the back panel and cover screen. In addition, the dual-rail hinge structure is better supported by a reinforced folding edge, capable of better distributing shock in the event of external impacts.

Samsung mentions that the foldable display features “enhanced layers” that “help improve the fold while maintaining strength.” We confirm that the crease is less visible. Still, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is moving in the right direction.

In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is Samsung’s thinnest foldable phone ever. It measures just 5.6mm when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded. It now has an IP48 certification against solid particles and water, an improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s IPX8 certification.

Larger cover screen and brighter main screen

Samsung has improved the screen situation of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in two ways. First, the cover screen is wider with an aspect ratio of 22.1:9. This should improve the user experience in regular phone mode.

As for the main 7.6-inch foldable display, it remains just as fantastic as before, except it’s now much brighter. It can reach a brightness of 2,600 nits, compared to 1,750 nits last year. This quality of life improvement will make it easier to use the unfolded phone in direct sunlight and very bright environments.

Larger vapor chamber for longer sustained performance

Series Galaxy Z Fold turns out to be a powerhouse and an excellent mobile gaming smartphone. How did Samsung make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 even better in this regard? By providing it with a faster and better-cooled chip.

The Fold 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which Samsung claims delivers 1080p performance. Ray Tracing fantastic on the bright 7.6-inch foldable display.

Even more impressive are the additional steps that Samsung has gone through steps to ensure the chip stays cool and maintains performance during periods of prolonged heavy use. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 features a new vapor chamber, 1.6 times larger than before, ensuring users can game and multitask for longer without losing performance.

Dual Screen Interpreter, Sketch to Image and more Galaxy AI

L’AI Galaxy is now a standard for new Samsung flagships, but the Galaxy Z Fold 6 improves on the formula with clever tools and additions.

The interpreter, for example, now works on both screens simultaneously, similar to the dual-screen interpreter mode of the Google Pixel Fold.

Another big addition to Galaxy AI has to be Sketch to Image. This isn’t exclusive to the Fold 6, as it’s available for the Flip 6but it works best with the Fold’s optional S Pen.

Sketch on/to Image lets you draw rough sketches and turn them into elaborate images using generative AI. This new tool lets you add objects to images by inserting rough sketches.

Similarly, Portrait Studio uses generative AI techniques to transform portrait photos into caricature images. There’s a new Composer mode that lets you create custom text for social media, and Live Translate is now available for other apps besides Samsung Phone.

Seven years of operating system updates

Finally, and unsurprisingly, Samsung has announced that it will support the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with seven major operating system updates. The phone will ship with Android 14 and will eventually receive Android 21, assuming the operating system will still be called that by then.

With increased durability, this new software support policy ensures that you can purchase the Galaxy Z Fold 6 now and use it for longer without worrying about its durability or lack thereof.
